What Mobility Equipment to Get After Surgery: A Quick Guide

After surgery, you need the right equipment ready the day you come home — not a week later. Here's what most people need, by procedure, so you can have it delivered and set up fast.

What you'll likely need, by surgery type

Foot or ankle surgery

A knee walker (knee scooter) is usually the best choice — you rest your shin on a padded cushion and roll, keeping weight off the foot, with your hands free. (See our comparison guide.)

Knee or hip replacement

A rollator or walker for stability in the early weeks, sometimes a transport chair for longer outings. A raised toilet seat and grab bars make the bathroom safer.

Major surgery / limited mobility

A transport chair or wheelchair for getting to appointments, plus bath-safety equipment at home.

Get it before you come home

The single biggest mistake is waiting until discharge day. Order ahead so it's waiting for you.
